Since its foundation in 1948, the Institute for Building Materials Research at RWTH Aachen University (ibac) has developed into an internationally leading and recognised platform in the field of building materials research. The spectrum ranges from applied research and development, often in cooperation with industrial partners, to basic scientific research. RWTH Aachen University offers an ideal environment for this.

The ibac has expanded significantly in 2014 and has grown to 3 professorships and one junior professorship. The resulting organisational changes have led to the units of the ibac appearing with their own internet offerings.
