On the front page with renewable building materials

A WG9 paper on sustainable, flame retardant wood fibreboards without formaldehyde was awarded the opportunity to be featured on the cover of the American Chemical Society's journal ACS Omega. The innovative core of the work is to completely convert feather residues into a flame retardant that is compatible with the wood fibres. As a positive side effect, it was observed that the flame retardant also acts as a binder. Thus, the novel material achieves the same flexural strengths as commercial fibreboards.
